O'Brien Hurls Shutout
Justin O'Brien of the Edmonton Eskimo was on top of his game.

The 28-year-old tantalized the Tacoma Thunderbirds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.

"He had the changeup working," Tacoma manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Edmonton hurler had 15 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.

O'Brien told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In 1 starts this season, O'Brien has rung up a 1-1 record and a 1.86 ERA.
